Long List of 10 named for 25 year waste PFI

Milton Keynes and Northamptonshire County Councils have revealed a 10-strong long list of consortia bidding for the jointly procured 25 year Project Reduce waste treatment PFI.
AmeyCespa, Biffa Waste Services, Covanta Energy, Greenstar E.ON Energy from Waste, MVV Umwelt GmbH, Resources from Waste, Shanks Group, Urbaser, Viridor and Waste Recycling Group all made the list.
Defra has awarded the the councils £138 million in PFI credits to fund the project, which is being procured through a competitive dialogue process, which is expected to take two years to complete.
Bidders will now begin discussions with the two councils to outline their plans to design, build, finance and operate facilities to handle 400,000 tonnes of municipal waste annually until 2035.
The winning consortia will provide transfer stations, landfill services and waste haulage as well as information and visitor facilities.
Construction is scheduled for completion in 2013/14.
