Greenstar WES – Simply the Best, Again
Wednesday 28th October 2009
Innovative plastics recycling company Greenstar WES scooped yet another top title at a prestigious industry awards ceremony held in London last night.
The Redcar-based business, part of the Greenstar UK group, won the Recycled Packaging of the Year category of the 2009 National Recycling Awards (NRAs).
Company founder and MD James Donaldson said the win was ‘another great honour for a young business, great recognition for its achievements, and a great tribute to the hard work and dedication of all its staff’.
Greenstar WES (www.thewesgroup.co.uk) led the world in developing the technology to start commercial production of food-grade recycled HDPE plastic. It goes into new plastic milk bottles and food trays found on the shelves of Britain’s biggest supermarkets, as well as cosmetics containers.
It was an auspicious occasion for the Greenstar brand as the Greenstar UK parent company was also shortlisted in the Recycling and Waste Management Business of the Year category of the NRAs.
Awards recognise innovation
This latest award crowns a year described by Donaldson as ‘a continuing series of highs’.
Earlier this year, Greenstar WES was honoured to receive the Queen’s Award for Enterprise (Innovation) for its recycling technology breakthrough, and it recently won a category in the annual Valpak Awards.
It has built an enviable reputation for developing technologies that enable the processing and recycling of ‘difficult’ plastics, such as plasticised film (crisp packets), low quality plastics and polystyrene.
The NRAs, organised by MRW Magazine and EMAP, took place at the London Hilton Hotel.
