High-profile appeal opts for national recycling capabilities

Buckinghamshire based Greenstar has been chosen as an official agent for one of the UK's most high profile charity appeals – the annual BBC Blue Peter Appeal

The Blue Peter Shoe Biz Appeal, in aid of UNICEF,, will ask viewers to collect and deposit pairs of second-hand shoes at Shoe Biz collection points across the country, including participating Clarks shoe shops.

The collected shoes, to be recycled by Greenstar, will be converted into cash that will help fund UNICEF’s work with children orphaned and affected by HIV and AIDS in Malawi.

Realising that logistics and pick ups would play a huge part in the appeal, Clarks, recommended the agency which currently handles all of its recycling and waste management efforts – Greenstar.

Greenstar is already working across the UK and Ireland with local authorities, retailers and manufacturing operations, so it is in the perfect position to offer its national service capabilities to Clarks and UNICEF in relation to the Blue Peter Appeal.

Commenting on the appeal and Greenstar's involvement, managing director of Greenstar UK, Ian Wakelin, explains: "We are delighted to be offered this opportunity and we are extremely pleased that Clarks has such confidence and faith in our capabilities to put us forward to undertake such a high profile task."

Greenstar already handles over 28,000 pick ups every week in all corners of the UK, so the Blue Peter Shoe Biz Appeal will be business as normal – but with a more valuable payload. Shoe Biz collection points will be located in participating Clarks shoe shops, schools, and BBC regional radio stations around the country which will make up the majority of the Greenstar pick-up points.
